The company was opened originally in 1939 by James Ching, publishing notes for student pianists. In 1964 its focus altered to include notes for school students taking public examinations.
It now concentrates on providing back up for students and teachers taking music in school. It has collected a large collection of notes covering a wide range of topics and commentaries on a large number of scores in the repertoire. It also includes helpful notes on Jazz scores and developments. The company is run now by two of James Ching’s daughters: Mary Bonnin and Gay Walker. There are a number of professional musicians who act as writers and consultants.
